October 29, 2026 - Markdown
A new Markdown extension loads, stores, and pastes markdown in both editors, with lossless round-trips for tables, task lists, mentions, and embeds.
Both editors can now read and write markdown through the new Markdown extension, built on the official @tiptap/markdown.
$ pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add "https://editorcn.vercel.app/r/markdown.json"
Highlights
- Load and export: pass
contentType: "markdown"touseEditororsetContent, and calleditor.getMarkdown()to save. - Markdown paste:
Markdown.configure({ pasteMarkdown: true })turns pasted markdown text into formatted content. Rich HTML pastes keep the default behavior, and code blocks always paste plain text. - Import and export button:
MarkdownToolbarimports a.mdfile, exports the document as.md, or copies it as markdown. The landing page editors and the Simple Document Editor template now include it. - Custom nodes round-trip: Mention, YouTube, and Twitter nodes now define markdown rules, so their ids and attributes survive a markdown, JSON, markdown round trip. GFM tables and task lists work out of the box.
- Upgrade note: re-add
mentionandeditorwith the shadcn CLI to get their markdown rules. Older copies write mentions and embeds as plain text. - Static rendering: parse markdown with
MarkdownManagerand pass the JSON to the Static Renderer.
Not included
Text color, font size and family, alignment, underline, subscript, and superscript have no markdown equivalent and are dropped on export. Use HTML or JSON to keep them.
